World of Smash: Week #101 ~Lip~

This is weekly thing where I make a quick rundown of each character in the game. I try to describe what the character is like and hopefully it will help people get a general feel for the character and what is all involved with that character.
But there are so many better character FAQs out there! Why bother with this?
That's not the point. Those FAQs are very long, meticulous, in-depth, and they also do not do what I want to accomplish. My weeklies are supposed to be easier to swallow and also add in other info that FAQ's don't sometimes. It's also to get a taste of each character and not to go too far in to smother someone. However, it's also meant to be comprehensive so that the reader will understand what the character is about. It is also meant to lead into being good with the character; in other words, it's supposed to be an introduction, like an introductory class in college for an undecided major. Also, if you're looking at a character and want to know more, you don't need to read a ton and go searching a ton because I've pretty much done the work for you because I even include who the masters are and also the best guides out there, not to mention a list of videos pertaining to the character.
It may end up being long but I've labelled each section so you can skip to what you actually want to read because there is some extra stuff you may not need (like background of character).
If you find yourself not understanding some terminology, you might want to go here to learn the terms.
This week's character is L i p, Fairy Fighter 
Tier position: 1st of Awesome
Character Aerodynamic: Moderate Fast Faller
Character Background:
Nintendo has been known to make a wide range of games and the puzzle genre has not escaped the Nintendo Treatment either. Although not one of the first forays into the world of puzzle (like Dr. Mario and Yoshi Cookie), Panel de Pon, otherwise known as Paneru De Pon, is also one of Nintendo's beloved puzzle franchises, created by Intelligent Design. However, this is only in gameplay.
The story of Lip starts back in 1996 with the Japanese release of Panel de Pon. The game featured a very femenine flavor, part of which included fairies being the main characters, which was no problem for a Japanese release. However, the American gaming scene at the time was full of
image concious young males" (wiki) and would not fly. As one part translation and one part marketting, the name was changed to "Tetris Attack" and starred the Yoshi's Island crew, along with an image facelift that made it more accessible to the American gaming population. This would also be the version of the game released to the rest of the world. Lip's presence outside of Japan was minimal at best, who was the main character in Panel de Pon. Using her fairy powers, she was to go out and save her fairy friends.
Later on, Nintendo would try to reuse the gameplay to sell software and in another marketting move, rebranded the title from a Mario look to a Pokémon look as "Pokémon Puzzle Leauge" for the Nintendo 64 in 2000 to the world outside of Japan. This image would stick up to the present time for gamers everywhere but Nintendo's home state.
Throughout the years, Nintendo has rereleased Panel de Pon a few times. Each of those times, the game either was cancelled for a worldwide released or rebranded with the Pokémon image. It would seem that Lip and her fairy freinds would never see the light of day outside of Japan.
However, at the release of Super Smash Brothers Melee, the world outside of Japan would get to see first peaks of what they've been missing for years. First, they got to peak at the main characters of the series Fire Emblem. That became so popular that it prompted Nintendo of America to release the Fire Emblem games stateside. However, smashers also got to sneak a peak at what the Japanese know as Panel de Pon in the form of Lip's Stick, and item that places a flower on the opponents head that does continual damage, and the garbage block from the game, one of the few forms Kirby turns into using his B+down attack.
Although it was not enough for the Panel de Pon brand to get released in the states (despite Nintendo's claims to be targetting female gamers), Lip's presence did not end at simply a few minor entrances in Super Smash Brothers. In the next installment in the series, Super Smash Brothers: A Super Duper Game, Lip made it in fully entact as a character. Now millions of gamers could enjoy what they've missed for years.
Character history:
At first, the smash community was utterly baffled by the new character. They had never seen her before and many players refused to play her because she was so girly. To quote one Matt Casamassina of IGN NE5, "This is only a character a girly man like Fran would play." The community would soon discover their folly.
The pro players, like Isai, who look past outer appearances of characters would try out the character and realize how awesome she was, prompting the creation of her own "Awesome" tier because of how awesome she was. These pros would go on to dominate the smash tournaments, consistently beating even the high tier characters, such as Doctor Mario, Metaknight, and Pichu, and 10 stocking the top tier characters, like Black Link, Green Link, and Blue Link.
To this day, smashers around the world are still grappling with the idea of whether or not Lip should be banned from tournaments because she's so much better than everyone else. However, she still has yet to be banned because of how awesome she is. And it looks like she will be dominating for the rest of the future of smash to come.
Character description: Awesome
First of all, she has an awesome recovery. Secondly, she's awesomely strong. There's just so much awesomeness flowing through her, it's not enough to cover in just a measly weekly installment of "world of smash". She's just too good.
Mastering Difficulty: Awesome
It's awesome mastering her. It's like, when you start playing, you know, it just starts to pump your blood and then when you stop playing her, you get all sad. And then when you pick her back up, it's like your energy is flowing through the air (because the controllers are wireless) and then you just start owning. It's like, in your eyes and stuff. You become a pro in, like, a second and stuff but you also have to unlock her true potential by playing more and stuff.
Combo Ability: So Awesome
She can move fast and has very good mobility so the fact that her moves all have tremendous knockback doesn't matter since she can still connect her moves with reletive ease. She has been known to do 0 to 40% combos on average. The world record record is 55% by Isai; nothing higher is thought be be reachable since at that point, even her weakest move sends opponents zooming off the screen.
Recoverablilty: I can't believe it's so Awesome
Using her fairy abilities, she can cover both awesome horizontal and awesome vertical distance, not to mention that her recovery is neither slow or predictable. She has incredible ariel control and can zig zag around anybody's attempts at edgeguard. Her recovery also does excellent damage and everything about her recovery is just awesome.
Kill Factor: Please mistress, may I have another?
Whether it be super slapping opponents with her Lip's Stick or Garbage Blocking them to death, this fairy is a force that just cannot be stopped. Watch out smashers, because there's a Tsunami of Pain coming your way!
Key tactics:
She has a wide array of fairy abilities. Make sure you know how to control them.
She also has a wide array of "puzzle block" abilities taken from her game, panel de pon. Make sure you know how to use them as well.
Other than that, it's really up to the player to decide how to play her. Since she's so awesome, she allows for the player to pick their own unique style from the ground up and apply it in tournament setting.
Character Masters:
Isai - He's been playing since the N64 version and it shows. He is currently tied for the king of smash. The only other player who has been able to consistently beat Isai's Lip is Ken. Because he's too ****ing good.
_glook - Although he only played for the first week after the game came out, _glook has made a name for himself by winning the first five tournaments for the newest smash game by using Lip. Coming out of the depths of the internet, _glook went from a scrubby Link player to being one of the best players in the game. When asked about how this could happen, he said, "I don't know. After I picked Lip, everyone I played against just died. Once, I played this Ninja and after the first 6 seconds, his head exploded. In real life! Then I went over to Mookie Rah's house and 99 stocked him in 4 seconds. It was crazy! It's like I wasn't even using the controller and Lip was owning by herself!"
Isai2 - In 2008, Isai was cloned in a freak accident. While still not retaining Isai's pure glowing awesomeness, he did retain much of his smash skills.

Yeah, I don't know if I'll be able to make a Zelda one this week. Midterms and not really having anybody to test my Zelda skills with has sort of made me fall behind with the World of Smash. I actually have a midterm coming up in about an hour (which I hope I'm ready for). So to make it up to you guys. _Glook How can you do this to your own World of Smash issues  !!? Just because you have Midterms doesn’t mean you can make an issue about Pan. On another note, the people I usually play smash with have for some reason dissapeared. I'm going to try and do what I can though. Hopefully, they'll come back sooner or later so that I have people to play with .
